“Youth is wealth, Youth is future”
National Youth Day 2007
National Youth Day 2007 was observed in Bangladesh highlighting the theme of the day “Youth is wealth, Youth is future” on 1 st November 2007 at Osmani Memorial Hall, Dhaka , Banlgadesh. Thousands of youth from different government and non-government organizations including Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) & Pro Youth Network Bangladesh and other youths from different areas of the country gathered together on the program. Youth and Sports Advisor Mr. Tapan Chowdhury inaugurated the day's program by hoisting national flag and releasing pigeons and balloons. The day was observed with a call for self-employment of the youths for establishing a nation free from poverty. He said youths should be more aware and attentive to self-employment as the country's future and progress depend on them.
“As per National Youth Policy, the population in the age group of 18-35 years in considered to be youth. According to that you are one third of the total population and estimated to be around 45 million. Considering this, your participation at every sate is very much important, as we want to reduce poverty. Our caretaker government has given enough emphasized to you, so that you can lead the nation properly” he also added.
On the program, Youth and Sports Advisor Mr. Tapan Chowdhury distributed National Youth Award 2007 among the 16 self-employed young men and women. Besides, he also distributed ‘Commonwealth Youth Silver Award 2007' to the president of ‘Agrajatra' youth organization. This year ‘Agrajatra' one of the youth organization situated in Chittagong from Asian reason, has been selected ‘Commonwealth Youth Silver Award 2007' for better contribution in the social development. They are also given 20 medals with prize money of Pound Starling one thousand. This is a great achievement of our youth organizations.
Youth and Sports Secretary Dr. Md. Golam Mustafa Talukder and Director General of The Department of Youth Development Md. Ismail Hossain also addressed the function. Youth and Sports Secretary announced that the First SARC Youth Camp will be held in Bangladesh on 10 December this year. This is our best opportunity to be host country. Among the countries of SARC 150 youths will participate in this program. Their age limit is 16-22 years. The aim of the program is to build leadership and relationship among the young people, economical stability and regional cooperation for establishing peace and good relation in regional and international stage. The Director General of The Department of Youth Development Md. Ismail Hossain declared that from now on National Youth Day will be observed on 1 st November in every year. He also expressed his thanks and graduate to Youth and Sports Advisor Mr. Tapan Chowdhury, Youth and Sports Secretary Dr. Md. Golam Mustafa Talukder and all participants who took part in this program.
Different government and non-government organizations also organized various programs including rally, discussion meetings, seminars and mass gathering, highlighting this year's theme.
