Bangladesh 2nd Sub-National Smoke-Free Project Workshop organized on 17th -19thMay, 2010. YPSA and PROGGA jointly arranged the 2nd  Sub-National workshop, three day long, on Smoke Free issue titled as “Bangladesh 2nd Sub-National Smoke-Free Project Workshop” in Chittagong on  17th to 19th May, 2010 which is supported by   Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CFTFK) and Bloomberg Initiatives.  The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills and experience sharing for effective smoke free environment creation at sub national level in Bangladesh.Read more

 

YPSA officials awarded by Voice of America (VOA)

Ypsa officalsVoice of America (VOA) Bengali service successfully completed 52 years (1958-2010) . To celebrate this occasion MITALI regular magazine of the VOA Fun Clubs of Bangladesh organized one colorful event at the National Press Club . Dr.Dipu Moni , Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Government was the Chief Guest and Mr.Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury , Chief of the VOA Bengali Service was the Special Guest at this event . Mr.S.M.Jahurul Alam , Correspondent of the VOA Bangladesh presided the meeting. At thi event VOA awarded to Md.Arifur Rahman , Chief Executive of YPSA and Advisor of the VOA Fun Clubs of Chittagong Division as Best Social Development Activist and Md.Mahabubur Rahman , Director(Field Operation ) and Executive Editor of MITALI as Best Organizer.

Training on ‘Mass Casualty Management’ ended

meetingYPSA organized a four day training workshop on ‘Mass Casualty Management’ for the doctors at USTC conference hall during 19-22 April with the support of DIPECHO V project funded by European Commission Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO) and Action Aid Bangladesh (AAB). The Mass Casualty Management training is to ensure prompt and appropriate assistance to victims of disasters, minimizing injuries and ensuring that the most critical receive immediate medical attention. 22 participants from CMCH, USTC, Maa Shishu General Hospital and different hospitals attended the training workshop

Human chain and prayer vigil for the victims of Cyclone 1991

Human chainYPSA, ADP, World Vision Bangladesh, Potenga Disability development forum and MAISHA jointly organized human chain and prayer vigil for the victims of Cyclone struck on 29 April 1991. On the night of 29 April a powerful tropical cyclone struck the Chittagong district of southeastern Bangladesh with winds of around 250 km/h. The storm forced a 6 meter storm surge inland over a wide area, killing at least 138,000 people and leaving as many as 10 million homeless. Students from school and colleges, service holders, civil society representatives attended the human chain and created public awareness of natural disaster and preparedness displaying play cards, banners and festoons. 

Country Director, Family Health International (FHI) visited YPSA’s Modhumita Project

visoitorMs. Misti Mc Dowell, Country Director of Family Health International (FHI) and Dr. Shamim , Technical Director, FHI visited YPSA’s Modhumita project at Nala para & shulok Bahar, Chittagong on 4 May. They visited health centre and Modhumita project for street based sex workers. They also attended a sharing meeting with YPSA team members and health center’s clients. and festoons. 

 

Workshop on Adolescent Reproductive Health for the teachers held

workshopYPSA organized workshop on Adolescent Reproductive Health for the teachers at Sitakunda HRDC supported by the PLAN Bangladesh & CIDA on May 18. 16 teachers from 9 schools in Sitakunda area & some ARH staffs participated in this workshop. Mainly focused issues in the workshop are individual school performance on ARH session, Proper uses of anonymous questions box, Identification of limitation & how to overcome it, some sensitive issues like as STI, RTI, HIV & AIDS, Safe motherhood, Changes during Adolescences, Family Relation, Difficulty of the Pregnancy time & 03 delay, Sexual relation & sexual abuse, family planning, Abortion & Infertility. Finally participants prepare a work plan how they will cover the ARH session in the school at six to ten class & how will increase awareness in the school students. 

YPSA observed “International Day for Bio-logical Diversity 2010”

RallyYPSA observed “International Day for Bio-logical Diversity 2010” with the theme of “Biodiversity, Development & Poverty alleviation” at Sitakund on 22 May. YPSA-RCBDH Project organized Rally and Discussion Meeting to mark this day at Barodarogahat under Sitakund Upazilla. Ali Akbar, Member of 4no word of Baiadhala Union presided the discussion meeting. Md Harunar Rashid, Range Officer of Bariadhala was the chief guest of the meeting. Local members, teachers, religious leaders, businessman, students, group members of forest dependent people participated at the rally and discussion meeting.  

Citizen dialogue on “Decentralization of national budget: Expectations of people in Chittagong” held

Guest at the Citizen dialogueYPSA, Unnayan Shangbadik Forum and Action Aid Bangladesh jointly arranged citizen dialogue titled “Decentralization of national budget: Expectations of people in Chittagong” at Chittagong on 22 May. “Chittagong is the main hub of national economy but Chittagong had so far been deprived in the national budget. Without decentralizing the whole process of national budget, we can not alleviate the poverty. People from all levels should be engaged in the budget making process” speakers said in the dialogue. Begum Chamon Ara, Member of Parliament was the chief guest in the program. Omar Kaisar, President of Unayan Shangbadik Forum, Chittagong and journalist moderated the dialogue. Representatives from civil society, NGOs, Local government, grassroots people, journalist teachers, and businessman participated in the dialogue. Read in Bengali
