Navigation Aids

  • The header and visual navigation can be skipped to the start of the main content through the use of the link at the start of every page or the assigned access key.
  • The site uses javascript to present menus which may not be accessible through all browsers. This site supports keyboard navigation through the menus where javascript is enabled. For users with javascript disabled, menu index pages have been provided which link to all pages in the relevant section.
  • The sitemap provides links to every page on the site.
  • Organisation information and activities information can be accessed through navigation pages that can be accessed via Access Keys or the non-javascript menu.

Alternate Navigation

  • All relevant images and links have been provided with alternative text.
  • All relevant tables have summaries.
  • All relevant acronyms have been defined.
  • Navigation which may prove to be inaccessible has alternative index pages.

Visual Design

This site has been designed with colour blind people and people with visual impairments in mind. High colour contrast has been used to ensure text and navigation are distinguishable. Proportional fonts have been used to follow the font size that the user has chosen in their browser. The colour scheme has been selected with consideration for people with common colour-blindness conditions. Changing the font size of the site will scale all textual elements appropriately. One common method for achieving this is by holding the CTRL Key and using the scroll-wheel on the mouse up or down.

Bandwidth

This site has been designed to incorporate a minimal amount of images. Where images are used they have been managed to ensure they are reusable - limiting the number of times they are downloaded. Common elements have been extracted to reduce page sizes. Other media such as animation, audio and video are limited or not used. Where large downloads are involved the user shall be warned beforehand. Content requiring plugins also include warnings to the user beforehand.

Interoperability

Valid HTML 4.0 Transitional

This website has been validated to ensure interoperability. Checking against recognised standards is intended to ensure that the site will operate correctly with other technologies. This site can then be expected to work with browsers and other technologies which comply with these standards and helps to ensure the site will work as expected in the future.
