Promoting Rights for Persons with Disabilities (PRPD)

Donor: Manusher Jonno Foundation

Goal: Increase knowledge on “Disability Welfare Act-2001” to promote rights of Persons with Disabilities on ‘education, information and communication’ as policy consideration issues.’

Objectives:

• Increasing awareness and sensitization of different stakeholders (students, teachers, NGOs, SGHs, Civil Society, government, community people) on the rights of persons with disabilities in accordance to the Disability Welfare Act 2001.
• Inclusion of students with disabilities.
• Building capacity of groups of persons with disabilities and their family members from project areas as ‘Ambassadors for rights of persons with disabilities’ for policy advocacy at local and national level.
• Creating access to poverty reduction means for persons with disabilities in working areas through inclusion into education, employment, declared government benefits, information, doorstep therapy services and referral information.

Duration:  April 2007 to March 2010.

Background:

YPSA has been implement Different kinds of activities to ensuring Barrier free society for person with disabilities. But YPSA observe that most of the person with disabilities deprived from their rights and they can not getting any kinds of government safety net. Other then some of person with disabilities are not getting opportunity to continue their study and person with disabilities have no opportunity to received rehabilitation therapy. Considering this problem YPSA try to doing some initiative for ensuring person with disabilities rights and service through Disability Welfare Act-2001”.

Future Plan:
YPSA believes that every People have equal rights on the society. To ensuring People with disabilities rights last three year’s PRPD implement priority based initiative for establishing barrier free rights based society and established Disability Welfare Act-2001”for people with disabilities. After closing the project YPSA will try to new initiative for establishing UNCRPD in society for person with disabilities.
