An Orientation workshop on “Role of institutional policies in strengthening smoking and tobacco control act 2005” held in Chittagong with the support from CFTFK. Councilors of Chittagong City Corporation have participated in the workshop. In the workshop the importance, objectives, role and benefits of institutional policy for smoke free workplace have been discussed. All the councilors said that they will provide their support to prepare smoke free policy and will take steps to implement it. Ms. Nasim Banu. Orientation workshop on “Control of Tobacco and smoking: Current status” held in Chittagong on 15th September'09 with the support from CFTFK. Councilors of Chittagong City Corporation have participated in the workshop. Slide presentation on current status of tobacco and smoking in Bangladesh has been delivered by the team leader of the project Ms. Nasim Banu. Participants shared their experiences on that issue and shown their interest to work with YPSA for ensuring the smoke free workplace at their own constituencies.
The advocacy strategy development and action planning workshop has been conducted in Chittagong on 16 th September 2009. Councilors, Journalist, NGO activist, CBOs and doctor from Feni, Cox's Bazar, Comilla and Chittagong City Corporation have participated in the workshop. The present status of tobacco and smoking in Bangladesh, harmful effect of tobacco and smoking, advocacy process, strategies and tools have been discussed in the workshop. At the end of the workshop, participants have prepared action plan divided into 4 working groups. Each group have presented their action plan and discussed on it. Mr. Aminul Islam Sujon from WBB Trust and Mr. Akber Reza, Program specialist of YPSA and Ms. Nasim Banu, Team leader have facilitated the workshop.
Media should actively come forward to support the Smoke Free Campaign `Media is very effective to raise the people's voice and easily communicate with a wide range of audience. Media should be more active on ensuring smoke free public place in line with Smoke Free Campaign of YPSA. Media should contribute to ensure the proper implementation of the Smoke and Tobacco Control Act and Rules.' Speakers said in a meeting that organized by YPSA, on 27th August 2009 in Chittagong, on “Smoke free Work and Public Place: Duties of Media” under the program of “Promoting Smoke Free Local Government and Public Spaces in Chittagong Division” supported by CFTFK and Bloomberg Initiatives.
The Meeting was presided by the prominent journalist and City Editor of Daily Suprobhat Bangladesh Mr. M. Nasirul Haque; the meeting also addressed by Mr. Omar Kaisar, Bureau Chief, Daily Bhorer Kagoj, Mr. Rashed Rauf, Secretary, Chittagong Press Club, Mr. Najim Uddin Shaymol, Secretary, Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) and other representatives of different newspaper and print media of Chittagong. Mr. M. Nasirul Haque gave the welcome speech and moderated the meeting and Md. Ali Shahin, Program Officer, Smoke Free Campaign Project of YPSA read out the slide presentation. The participants joined the meeting very actively and gave valuable comments to enrich the campaign. They also committed that they will continue their support in future.
YPSA organized Consultation Workshop on “Smoke Free Environment & Responsibility “ at Feni Press Club on 3 August . Dr Golam Kibria Civil Surgeon of Feni District was present as Chief Guest and Md Yousuf, Mayer of Feni Porushova , Md Johirul Islam, UNO of Feni Sadar were special guest at the workshop. Mr Abu Taher, President of Feni Press Club presided the workshop.
Workshop on Tobacco control

YPSA organized a divisional workshop on Tobacco control under the "Strengthening Bangladeshi tobacco control through GO-NGO cooperation for improved FCTC implementation" with the support of WBB Trust & The Union on 9 March 2008 at YPSA-HRDC Chittagong. Representatives of 24 organizations from 8 districts of Bangladesh participated in the workshop.

YPSA, Shining Hill and Para jointly observed World No Tobacco Day 2008 on 31 May at Rangamati.

World Health Organization declared the 31st may as World No Tobacco Day. This day is celebrated trough out the world in every year.
YPSA significantly observed World No Tobacco Day `07 in Rangamati, Coxbazar, Bandarban and Chittagong with the support of WHO. YPSA arranged rally, seminar program in every region and distributed leaflets, stickers and copy of government ordinances, to the people, for awarness about tobacco control. Signboards were setup in every imperative public places.
Representatives from the department of health, family planning, Youth development, Forest and Drug control of the government, also the representatives from civil society, print and electronic media and also NGO officials, indigenous people, religious leaders were present in the rallies and seminars. 
Approximately a total of 1200 people were participated in those events.
YPSA also observed this day in the head office as well as all the brunch office of Chittagong.
The theme of “Creation of smoke free environment†was ascertained by the WHO in this year.
Speakers said in the seminar that tobacco is the second major cause of death in the world. People are suffering from many diseases as lung cancer, asthma, heart diseases and high blood pressure by smoking. The purpose of the day observation was encouraged to the local people and government for implementing laws of tobacco control.
The business men who are not aware about the hazardous impact of the human heath and making profit out of their unscrupulous business should be discouraged by the government. Speakers also said that the campaign of anti tobacco should be continued.
